Most social media is built to keep you scrolling for as long as possible, because your attention is the product being sold. GreenTea is built the other way around. We are a non-profit: after costs, all profit is donated to organisations fighting climate change. The goal isn't to maximise your time on the app — it's to be a calmer, more honest place to be social, and to turn that into something good for the planet.

A shared daily limit
Everyone gets the same randomly-set character limit each day — a small, shared constraint that makes the whole community feel like it's experiencing the same day together.
Nearby
A local feed that surfaces posts and people in your area, so the network fosters real community instead of an endless global firehose.
Open Water
Topic-based discovery designed to surface quality content beyond your circle — with a daily view cap, so it broadens your horizons without turning into a doom-scroll.
Connections & Circles
Mutual connections form a Circle (capped at 150 — about the number of relationships a person can genuinely keep up with). Post to your Circle when you want to share with people you trust.
Calm by design
A daily cap on how many posts you can make, per-post control over comments, and no engagement-maximising tricks. Less noise, less outrage, more signal.
Ads are opt-in — always
By default you see no ads, ever. If you choose to turn them on, it's because you'd like to contribute to climate charity that way. Your call, reversible any time.
How the opt-in ads work
GreenTea needs revenue to donate — but ads are also one of the things people most dislike about social media. Our answer is to make them a choice. A single switch in your profile turns ads on or off. Leave it off and the ad network is never even loaded for your account. Turn it on and a small counter shows you the contribution you're making. There are no ads forced on anyone, and no feature is ever locked behind watching one.
